    We have an opportunity for a Safety Coordinator at John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc. (JBSS)!

     

    JBSS is an $850+ million business in the on-trend and growing nut category that competes across the consumer, commercial ingredients and international channels of trade.  The company produces nuts and nut-based snacks under its own brands (Fisher, Orchard Valley, Hunter Mix, Squirrel Brand) as well as private and contracted brands.

     

    Over the last 7 years, the company has transformed itself from a commodity-based manufacturer into a rising Consumer Packaged Good company with growing brands.  JBSS delivered continued growth in Fiscal 2018.

     

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The Safety department is staffed with 3 people that are responsible for ensuring compliance of safety programs within our plants at our locations.  This position will be based at our Elgin, IL facility.  If you have a background in safety we want you to be a part of our team!  Here's what you will need to be successful:

     

    • Ability to communicate with all levels of management as well as hourly employees.
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office.
    • Knowledge of OSHA regulations

     

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Ensures continuous improvement of facility issues through daily walks of the facility and coordinator of other responsible parties such as maintenance or sanitation.
    • Performs daily facility walk-through of all buildings.
    • Communicates with operations manager on all issues that require specialist attention.
    • Performs initial and reoccurring forklift training.
    • Maintains safety communication board and postings.
    • Conducts training with hourly employees on safety programs.
    • Assists in the education of supervisors and managers at their location on corporate safety programs.
    • Aids supervisors in accident investigation and completing all required forms.
    • Manages the location safety committee and all of their activities.
    • Stocks first aid kits for facility and maintains first aid log.
    • Assist each department in maintaining the MSDA and chemical list.
    • Maintains local safety training documentation including safety training, monthly safety meetings, monthly safety committee minutes.
    • Coordinates quarterly facility inspections.

     

     

    Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will have:

    • Associates degree preferred
    • Two years experience in a safety or related discipline
    • Experience in training safety programs and preventing unsafe conditions and acts.
    • Bilingual, English/Spanish preferred.
