    The Engineering Department is looking for an experienced Sr. Project Engineer at John B. Sanfilippo & Son (JBSS)!


    JBSS is an $850+ million business in the on-trend and growing nut category that competes across the consumer, commercial ingredients and international channels of trade.  The company produces nuts and nut-based snacks under its own brands (Fisher, Orchard Valley, Hunter Mix, and Squirrel Brand) as well as private and contracted brands.   

    Over the last 7 years, the company has transformed itself from a commodity-based manufacturer into a rising Consumer Packaged Good company with growing brands. 

    The Engineering Department of JBSS is a fully functional team with engineers in the CAD and Electrical arenas.  They are well versed in design and programming.  This position is for a highly developed Sr. Project Engineer that will assist with complex designs and drafts of food processing & packaging equipment, plant layouts and machine parts; this position establishes budgets for capital projects and manages systems installations.  We have a one million square foot facility for you to develop these creations! 


    Duties and Responsibilities

    This position is for our facility in Elgin, IL. The skills we are expecting this Sr. Project Engineer to have are as follows:

    • Ability to supervise projects and staff
    • Working knowledge of AutoCAD
    • Working knowledge of Solidworks
    • Ability to be on your feet four hours a day and walk large facilities
    • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Project and Office


    Key responsibilities include:

    • Management experience of new equipment purchases by working closely with vendors to ensure equipment meets manufacturing requirements.  Performs equipment Factory Acceptance Tests or other activities related to machine purchases.
    • Must be able to prepare completed layouts for final equipment/system design from simple sketches and/or vendor supplied drawings for all company locations.
    • Ability to design and modify production areas and implement changes to resolve problems and improve equipment/systems performance & reliability.
    • Works with other engineers and managers on design needs.


    If you feel you meet the above requirements, you must have:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facility Planning, or related field preferred.
    • Five or more years experience in engineering and project management.
    • Knowledge in the food/nut industry highly preferred.
