  • Overview

    The Supplier Food Safety/Quality Specialist will work with cross functional teams to provide support for the supplier quality management system at JBSS for the receipt and qualification of nuts and ingredients. 

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Maintains/Monitors global COA receiving quality database for all JBSS plants.  Issues first alert to site Quality Systems Managers for Out of Specification items or unapproved suppliers.
    • Requests/Reviews supplier's documentation (ex: process flows, specifications). Develops technical expertise to drive Continuous Improvement with the suppliers for identified gaps in documentation and/or programs.
    • Partners with procurement and plants to resolve supplier document issues (e.g. missing Certificate of Analysis, damaged items, documentation, etc.)
    • Creation and generation of supplier evaluation based on key performance indicators (e.g.audits, quality objectives and complaints)
    • Support the generation of ingredient specifications
    • Serves as an active member and supports the quality leadership team from a Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) readiness standpoint.  Supports FSMA related metrics analysis and reporting needs.
    • Assist with Food Safety Rick Assessments
    • Recommends actions relating to supplier qualification/de-qualification.
      • Responsible for manufacturing, distributing and consistently maintaining safe and quality food by following good manufacturing practices, allergen controls, food defense, HACCP/Food Safety Plans and SQF requirements.
      • Responsible for immediately reporting all food safety and quality issues to your manager.
      • Responsible for partnering with others; Sharing knowledge, skills and information within your team and across functional areas.

    Qualifications

    Education, Experience, and Knowledge:

    • Bachelor's degree (microbiology preferred) or equivalent work experience.
    • technical knowledge of quality systems and food Safety; knowledge of relevant government regulations and certification criteria preferred.
    • Interpretation of analytical results
    • Two to four years experience working in the food industry and/or quality industry preferred

    Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

    • Preventative Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) for human food Certification a plus.
    • Safe Quality Food (SQF), Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) training a plus.

    Skills and Competencies:

    • Excellent verbal/written communication skills; computer and statistical skills.
    • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications, TraceGains
    • Experience in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP/Food Safety Plans, allergens, Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs); ISO, GFSI, FSMA
    • Work well in cross functional teams (Procurement, Tech Services, R&D. plant quality, etc.)
    • Minimal travel
