  • Overview

    The Category Manager, Commercial Ingredients is responsible for product line management of the Commercial Ingredients channel. This includes leading and managing all branded and private label efforts, requiring a cross-functional collaborative spirit.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Serves as a champion of the Commercial Ingredients product line (e.g.: positioning, formulation, packaging and branding). Works with channel lead, exercise oversight/approval and makes day to day decisions. Serves as a key cross functional contact point for product launches and changes.
    • Works with channel leader to define channel brand strategy and execution priorities. Facilitates and manages external research requirements. Directly manages Fisher brand in the foodservice channel, products/package and image. Gains consensus with Retail brand team on use of the Orchard Valley Harvest brand.
    • Manages customer private label product offerings and maintenance. Leads/manages cross functional execution. Participates in RFP’s as required.
    • Serves as a profit margin influencer. Works with trade manager to identify opportunities for margin improvement on products (pricing, mix) and customers (individual and segments).
    • Works with business management team to develop and execute annual planning. Often takes the lead in setting product line direction and gaining business management concurrence.
    • Assists channel lead as necessary to develop and execute Commercial Ingredients strategic plan.
      • Responsible for manufacturing, distributing and consistently maintaining safe and quality food by following good manufacturing practices, allergen controls, food defense, HACCP and SQF requirements.
      • Responsible for immediately reporting all food safety and quality issues to your manager.
      • Responsible for partnering with others; Sharing knowledge, skills and information within your team and across functional areas.
      • Responsible for enhancing technical and functional competencies, as well as professional and leadership development.

    Qualifications

    Education, Experience, and Knowledge:

    Bachelor of Arts/Science degree in Business Administration or related discipline.  Ideally MBA.  Five plus years of proven product line management experience in the food service industry.  Food service marketing background required. Ideally both branded and private label.  Strong fundamental business background in product/customer opportunity development, business mix analysis and overall financial acumen.  Significant experience leading/managing complex cross-functional projects.

     

    Skills & Competencies:

    Excellent communication and presentation skills.  Solid competency modeling sales and financial opportunities.  Computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office applications. Ability to travel up to 20%.
