Overview

The CAD Designer/Project Engineer designs and drafts food processing and packaging equipment, plant layouts, and parts.  This position establishes budgets and timelines for capital projects and managers systems installations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Designs, redesigns, or modifies required areas and implements changes to resolve problems and improve equipment/systems performance and reliability.
  • Prepares completed layouts for final equipment/system design from simple sketches and/or vendor supplied drawings for all company locations.
  • Manages new equipment purchases by working closely with vendors to ensure equipment meets manufacturing requirements.  some travel may be required for equipment Factory Acceptance Tests or other activities related to machine purchases.
  • works with other engineers, managers and facility staff of design needs.
  • Manages internal projects by supporting maintenance and fabrication shop employees involved in new projects and retrofits/upgrades.
  • Evaluates production equipment and related systems for optimization.
  • Monitors project costs and prepares progress summaries for executive group.
  • Is responsible for manufacturing, distributing and consistently maintaining safe and quality food by following good manufacturing practices, allergen controls, food defense, HACCP and SQF requirements.
  • Is responsible for immediately reporting all food safety and quality issues to your manager.
  • Is responsible for partnering with others; Sharing knowledge, skills and information within your team and across functional areas.
  • Is responsible for enhancing technical and functional competencies, as well as professional and leadership development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facility Planning, or related field preferred.
  • Five plus years experience in engineering and project management.
  • Knowledge in the food/nut industry highly preferred.
  • Operate office equipment.
  • Ability to supervise projects and personnel.
  • AutoCAD.
  • Solidworks
  • Morcrosoft Office Project, Excel, Work, Outlook.
  • Ability to be on feet four hours-a-day.
  • Manual dexterity.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.
  • Walk large facilities.

Job Specific Requirement:

In the event that the CAD Desginer/Project Engineer is absent, the Department Manager is resonsible for providing and equally qualified person to cover this position.
