Overview

The Corporate Accountant is a highly motivated person that is the project leader responsible for the implementation of new accounting guidance that affects the company. Also responsible for other special projects that arise, and various period-end accounting duties including: preparing analyses and related monthly journal entries, and month-end closing duties. This position will also be cross trained in financial reporting.  

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Is responsible for leading the research, documentation and implementation of major new accounting guidance that affects the company. Primary focus will initially be on revenue recognition and leasing.
  • Participates in month-end, quarter-end and year-end activities including some preparation of entries for posting to the general ledger and performing account reconciliations.
  • Works with internal departments and external resources to expedite obtaining financial information, primarily related to subjective and complex accounting accruals and ensuring their related expense is complete and accurate.
  • Researches complex accounting issues/transactions as assigned, including new accounting rules, and prepare memorandum of appropriate treatment.
  • Responsible for manufacturing, distributing and consistently maintaining safe and quality food by following good manufacturing practices, allergen controls, food defense, HACCP and SQF requirements.
  • Responsible for immediately reporting all food safety and quality issues to your manager.
  • Responsible for partnering with others; Sharing knowledge, skills and information within your team and across functional areas.
  • Responsible for enhancing technical and functional competencies, as well as professional and leadership development.

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • At least four years’ experience, preferably in a national public accounting firm.
  • Experience with a publicly traded company is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and financial statements necessary.
  • Experience in MS Excel and other Office products.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

  • CPA

Skills and Competencies:

  • Thorough understand of U.S. GAAP
  • Position requires the ability to work independently and cross-functionally.
  • Good organization skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to research accounting issues and document a well-articulated conclusion referencing relevant accounting literature.
  • Good communication skills, ability to interact with all levels and functions within, as well as outside, the organization.
  • Ability to interact with the general ledger and various related reporting software that is used to analyze account activity.
